What is WPA art?

On May 6, 1935, the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) was created to help provide economic relief to the citizens of the United States who were suffering through the Great Depression.

Between 1938 and 1941, the WPA produced a series of 14 hand silk screened promotional posters for the parks.

It wasn't until 1973 that a park ranger named Doug Leen happened to save one of the posters from the trash—a chance discovery that eventually led to a resurgence in the popularity of the images and their signature WPA style. Of the 14 designs, 12 originals have been recovered.

The designs on this page are my own originals, done in the

original WPA style. The font used is called NPS 1935.(Click for more history on the font.)
